What Gets You Flying?
« on: June 23, 2009, 06:46:30 AM »
Arabian Airlines is now beginning to poll pilots about their flying habits to see what exactly gets people off the ground and into the air.

We specifically want to know what we at Arabian can do to help motivate more activity in the company. Should we have little online get togethers on VATSIM? A pilot of the month program? Pilot awards?

Let us know! We need your input to help make Arabian better than the best.

Was alarmed to see no response to this post. I personally love fly-in/fly-out events. I appreciate the recent event we had at Arabian, unfortunately i was notable to attend. Monthly Pilot Awards can be a great idea. A weekly flight flown online, which is out of or general schedule can be interesting. Just a suggestion.

A flight logging/tracking system, much like an ACARS programme, would most certainly increase activity. It creates a certain "thrill" throughout the flight in terms of the pilot's awareness of the fact that his/her every move is being tracked.

I usually have the urge to try some more flights when:
I see an aircraft overhead leaving Perth airport,
If there were more fly-ins, I keep forgetting about our weekly one, is it still happening?,
If there was our own ACARS auto flight recording system,
If we had our own teamspeak and we could talk to each other en-route,
If we could discuss flight issues, etc, regularly on our own teamspeak apart from VATUE,
If there were more destinations with return flights timed at a few hours after arrival,
If the were "other liveries" for particular destinations,
If there was some sort of incentive to reaching certain flying hours apart from ranks,
If there were "tours" of certain places just like IVAO tours where "badges" are awarded for completing the tour.
Sorry about all that, sometimes I do rave on a bit,

Hey Walter,

Those are some useful recommendations. I have absolutely always enjoyed the tours options provided by IVAO, wish even VATSIM did something of that sort. Teamspeak servers would do a world of good when it gets a little lonely out there flying alone !
